Hatred

A man called me an idiot for no good reason, and I wondered why ? I recounted an event where a black man was racist towards me - he punched me off a bench when I sat next to him, because of the sole reason I was white. Lastly I remembered a dying homeless person I walked by every day in LA, until he finally went to the other side… I always wondered, could’ve there been something I could’ve done for him ?

A man called me an idiot today,
Why exactly ? I can’t really say…
His words cut deep into my mind,
A great deal of thought they have left behind.
Why oh why did you treat me so ?
A mere stranger, you don’t even know ?
Another punched me as I was white and he was black,
Deep inside I wonder, shouldn’t he of all be sickened by that ?
I understand the history, of which I took no part,
but today’s another day, and mine’s a newly born heart.
Our world’s engulfed in fear I figure, and so is he,
but then again he might be saying the same about me.
I saw a homeless man die, and I saw how nobody cared.
I saw the police took his body away, how his soul wasn’t spared.
A great deal of things a man has to devour,
Before it all gets pointless in his last final hour.
